New Members

We are delighted to welcome June Cheung and Peter Barnes as new members of Bernacchi Chambers.

June was called to the Bar in 2000. She joined the Department of Justice as Government Counsel in 2001 and was promoted to Senior Government Counsel in 2008. She was appointed as a Permanent Magistrate in 2012 and served the Judiciary in different roles: Magistrate, Coroner, Deputy District Judge (handling both criminal and matrimonial matters), and Criminal Appeal Registrar. She joins Chambers upon returning to private practice in 2025.

Peter practised as a barrister and solicitor in South Australia after graduation from 1986 to 1993 before coming to Hong Kong.  In 1999 he founded Barnes & Daly and was involved in many of the leading formative constitutional cases in the next decade.  In 2013 he transitioned to the Bar, being called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2014 and has, since that time, established himself as a matrimonial trial lawyer in disputed children and financial cases. He has been appointed multiple times as a Deputy District Judge from 2019 to 2024.  Peter is a CEDR-trained mediator and additionally accepts engagement in both private FDR and private financial adjudication cases.
