Velda Yau Coached CUHK Team to IBA ICC Moot Competition Semi-Finals

Bernacchi Chambers member Velda Yau, the first alumni coach for The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s International Criminal Court (ICC) moot team, recently took the team to compete at the annual IBA ICC Moot Court Competition held in The Hague, Netherlands in June 2023. Co-organized by the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies and the International Bar Association, the IBA ICC Moot Court Competition is one of the major international moots and attracts universities from all over the world.

The CUHK ICC moot team competed against over 80 universities from 50 countries and entered into the semi-finals, ranking eighth overall in the end. Having previously represented CUHK in a number of international mooting competitions herself, Velda appreciated the opportunity to not only support her alma mater through coaching the CUHK ICC moot team, but also continue Bernacchi Chambers’ tradition of contributing to the wider legal community through sharing valuable experience with law students and nurturing the next generation of lawyers.
